Understanding the skin, you're in

First, let's look at the different facial skin types:

Oily skin

Unfortunately, oily skin is more prone to blemishes and breakouts due to the excess oil in the skin. Oily skin is generally shiny and can be slightly, or very greasy feeling with most build up general found around the T-Zone.

Normal skin

Just like in Goldilocks and the three bears, healthy skin is well balanced, not too oily and not too dry, it's just right! Generally, normal skin is stable and is not prone to breakouts and dryness.

Dry skin

Dehydrated and potentially flaky looking, dry skin is prone to being rough, itchy or irritated and can be dull in appearance.

Combination skin

As the name states, it is a combination of either normal, dry or oily skin. For example, you may have oily skin throughout the T-Zone, but feel as though your cheeks are drier and potentially rougher. This would mean you have combination skin and would need to customise your routine to keep your skin balanced.

 Sensitive skin

Different individual class sensitive skin either visually or from a feeling. The experience is unique to the individual but can include redness and dryness or be as simple as itchiness or a discomforting feeling.

When it comes to your body, many people don't take as much time and care with it as they do their facial needs. Below you will find a few quick tips to help your skin feel soft and glowing all day.

Potentially the most important to note that good skin starts within. Did you know that your body is made up of 70% water and that water should be replenished daily? Water not only keeps your skin hydrated, but it also minimises dry, tight and flaky skin. Water also works to flush out any toxins to keep the skin looking refreshed. Unfortunately, being the largest organ, the skin is the last place for water to reach. Therefore it is crucial to drink a recommended 8 glasses of water a day to ensure your skin gets the required H2O to have it at its best!

It is much easier to prevent than to turn back the hands of time. Protecting your skin is from the elements is essential. Many people associate sunscreen only with the warmer months; however, did you know, that UV rays can damage your skin even on a cloudy day? We recommend an excellent SPF50+ whether it be a spray like our Bondi Sands Sunscreen Lotion SPF50 or a rub in lotion such as our Sun Bum SPF 50+ Lotion. Both work great to prevent skin damage and minimise potential fine lines and wrinkles. So your skin is now protected but make sure you don't forget your pout! Sunbum has a vast range of delicious SPF15 Lip Balms, the only problem is you will have to reapply because they taste so good!

Each day our skin faces multiple pollutants that can clog our pores and lead to breakouts, and we're not just talking about the face – BACKNE IS A THING! When it comes to looking for cleansers, we tend to go all out for our faces but forget the rest of our body. Our go-to cleanser for those with a busy life is the sebamed Liquid Face and Body Wash 1L Pump. The pH value of 5.5 maintains the balance of the acid mantle's hydro-lipid system and its protective barrier function against damaging environmental influences. The sebamed range is perfect for the whole family as it is made for sensitive skin and promotes the moisture-retaining capacity of your skin while gently cleansing without irritation.

Your skin is constantly shedding old skin cells allowing for smoother skin to the surface, this is called desquamation. Exfoliating can aid this process, ensuring the fresh skin cells are always at the surface. In the simplest terms, exfoliation is physically or chemically removing those dead and dulling skin cells. Exfoliating helps speed up your skin's process and helps it to behave younger. Desquamation is different for all skin types, for example, when the skin is drier, the process is more noticeable and can be seen in the flaking off of the surface. However, on the flipside, oily skin slows down this process as the skin cells stick to the oil in a glue-like manner. Alya makes a deep exfoliator that is perfect pre-mask or facial to ensure your skin absorbs as best it can.

Moisturisers work to lock in moisture and are best done after cleansing or showering to ensure they lock in as much moisture as possible. The sebamed Moisturising Cream is a great facial moisturiser and perfect post-cleanse. On the other hand, foot, or whichever body part, it is great to pair it with sebamed Body Lotion. Using the right face/body moisturiser ensures you've locked in all that moisture from head to toe.
